Learning Disabilities

Learning difficulties is a condition in the learning process which is marked by certain obstacles, in achieving learning objectives. This condition is marked difficulty in academic tasks, whether caused by neurological problems, or other psychological causes, so that low academic achievement, not in accordance with the potential and the work done. Allan O. Ross, said “a learning dificulty represent a discrepancy between a child’s estimated academic potential and actual level of academic performance”.

The United States Office of Education (USOE), to formulate specific learning disability is a disorder in one or more of the basic psychological processes that include understanding and using speech or written language. These disturbances may appear in the form of difficulty listening, thinking, speaking, reading, writing, spelling and arithmetic. Restrictions include conditions such as perceptual disorders, brain injury, dyslexia and Aphasia development.

The National Joint Committee on Learning Disabilities (NJCLD), defines learning disabilities as a group difficulties in the form of real difficulty; in proficiency and use of the capability, to listening, conversing, reading, writing, arithmetic, language, to the perceptual motor skills. Disturbance is anticipated, due to the central nervous system dysfunction. On the other hand, The Board of the Association for Children with Learning Disabilities and Adulth (ACALD), believes learning difficulties is more of a chronic condition, allegedly derived from the neurological aspects, that selectively disrupt the process of development, integration, and verbal ability and performance.

Learning difficulties have a broad understanding in terms, such as:
a) Learning Disorder (dependence study), is a situation where someone disrupted the learning process, because of the emergence of conflicting responses. Basically the children, who experience learning difficulties like this, academic achievement is not disrupted, but the learning process is a belated, of the existence of conflicting responses. Thus, the learning outcomes achieved will be lower than potential.

b) Learning Disabelities, is the inability of the child, which refers to the phenomenon where children are not capable of learning (learning to avoid), so the result of learning under his intellectual potential.

c) Learning Disfunction, is a phenomenon in which the learning process does not function well, although there are no signs of mental subnormalitas, Dria tool disorders or psychological disturbances other.

d) Under Achiever, which refers to children who have intellectual potential level above normal, but relatively low academic achievement. Evidently, the result of learning (schools) are bad.

e) The Slow Learner (learning slowly), is a child who is slow in learning process, thus requiring a longer time, compared with the other kids chose the same level of intellectual potential

Above symptoms, will appear in the aspects of cognitive, affective and psychomotor, both in process and learning outcomes to be achieved. Behavioral traits that are of flearning difficulties, among others:
a) The result of learning is low, below average and not in accordance with what is expected;
b) Slow in performing tasks and learning activities (academic) and growth (development);
c) Demonstrated attitude (personality), behavior, ways of thinking and emotional symptoms are less reasonable in the (learning);
d) There is no equivalent between IQ and achievement or the achievement of skills (versatility) with perfect results which should be in reach, etc.
